Lightboard.com 8-20-2017. States across the country are preparing for extra power use during the eagerly anticipated solar eclipse. States are now asking that you should to help reduce the strain on the nations power grid. Citizens are urged to help prevent outages by reducing energy usage from 9 am to 11 am local times during the August 21 solar eclipse. Powers companies suggest you go outside and enjoy the shade from the eclipse but restrain from turning on all the lights. Many of the nations street lighting systems work by solar eye’s that will automatically switch on lighting that will cause an extra load on power generation. Also many solar paneled power generation plants will not be able to produce power during the eclipse multiplying the strain on other generation stations.
